Killing LBJ: Lyndon Johnson's Early Demise

Did LBJ's lifelong political wish to become President of the United States become a "Be Careful What You Wish For" moment in his life, when President John Kennedy was assassinated?

LBJ inherited several political "hot potatoes": the Civil Rights movement, the Vietnam War and the expensive, but popular, Kennedy's space race program to put a man on the moon by 1969.

From the moment Johnson was sworn in as President in 1963 until he left office in 1969, he was overwhelmed with stress. He died at home in 1973, at age 64.

My Pig Valve and I

The author and his wife describe events leading up her heart mitral valve being replaced with one made from a real pig's heart valve, which was described as having a life expectancy of 8-10 years.

The valve will be 20 years old in 2016, and is still functioning. The story describes the surgical procedures and events following.

My Cataracts and I

The author describes his cataract operation, involving the replacement of clouded natural lenses with  artificial prescription lenses, as complicated by glaucoma.

Experiences during and after the operations are described, including the occurrence of double vision and difficulties with driving.

 My Malignant Tumor and I

The author describes events leading up to his discovery of an abdominal tumor and its subsequent removal by operation.

The tumor was diagnosed as malignant. The follow-on chemotherapy treatment, including hair loss, was successful, and the author is still cancer-free after 19 years.
